The so-called elastomer refers to the glass transition temperature (Tg) is lower than room temperature, the elongation at break is more than 50%, and the external force is removed after the recovery of a good class of polymer materials.

 

Thermoplastic elastomer TPU

 

Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPU) is a block copolymer consisting of oligomer polyol as soft segment and diisocyanate-chain extender as hard segment. TPU can be plasticized, solvent soluble polyurethane, its molecular structure is generally linear, but there are some physical cross-linking between molecular structures. The crystallinity and phase separation degree of polyurethane materials are related to the attraction between and within the macromolecules, which are related to the types of soft segments and hard segments of polyurethane, which are related to the types and density of groups.

 

TPU has high modulus, high strength, high elongation, high flexibility and good abrasion resistance, oil resistance, low temperature resistance, aging resistance and so on comprehensive performance, is a very versatile new environmental protection material, the material, printing ink, adhesives bonding material, film, sheet, melt spinning spandex, car interiors and wire pipe has a wide range of applications.

 

Raw materials and auxiliaries for synthesizing TPU

 

There are three main raw materials for synthesizing TPU, namely, oligomer polyol, polyisocyanate (usually difunctional) and small molecule chain extender. In addition, in industrial production in order to improve production efficiency, shorten the cycle and improve some processing properties also need to add some other additives.

Synthetic TPU process

 

TPU can be synthesized by bulk polymerization and solution polymerization.

Bulk polymerization is divided into prepolymer method and one-step method. Prepolymer method is to react diisocyanate and macromolecular diol for a certain time, and then add chain extender to produce TPU. The one-step method is to mix diisocyanate, macromolecular diol and chain extender in the reactor to produce TPU at the same time. Among them, in production, one-step method and two-step method have their own advantages, as shown in Table 2

Solution polymerization is to first dissolve diisocyanate in solvent, then slowly add macromolecular diol to stir for a period of time, and finally add chain extender to produce TPU.

 

TPU manufacturer

 

At present, there are many TPU manufacturers with varying quality. The main products are polyether TPU, polyester TPU, aliphalian TPU, polycaprolacone TPU, polycarbonate TPU, polyether flame retardant TPU, TPU+GF, TPU+PC alloy, antistatic conductive TPU and so on.

From the overall analysis, there are many TPU manufacturers in foreign countries, while most of China's TPU manufacturers are small and medium-sized enterprises, with relatively scattered distribution, unstable product quality, many repeated experiments, relatively weak technological development ability, few product functions, and lack of core competitiveness.
