Basf has announced that its new Elastollan soft touch TPU series offers new design possibilities with superior touch, feel and performance, according to the report.
Elastrolan is making headway in the consumer electronics parts market thanks to Meiban's laser texture innovation, Meiban Skin (IMS) technology.
Meiban's IMS technology is said to be able to imprint various textures and graphics on new materials. As this technology enables enhanced design versatility, the Elastrolan soft-touch TPU series is recognized as an ideal solution for style-and-function critical consumer electronics accessories and products such as watchbands, speakers, and laptop cases. Elastrolan Soft touch TPU meets the growing demands of consumer electronics for functionality and comfort, as well as other mechanical properties suitable for wearables. These properties include excellent adhesion, opacity, and skid resistance on the glass.
In addition, compared to the traditional TPU, the new series is easy to process without any overflow problems. The material also stands out through a new palette of colors, offering brands a different choice of bright colors.
"Meiban continues to innovate in polymer technology and design," said Helen Ho, Meiban's head of Research and Development. "Working with BASF, we are excited to be able to deliver high-quality designs to consumer electronics brands through our IMS technology. This technology provides consumers with a better, stronger, more versatile design option for mobile phones and electronic accessories. When applied to medical technology, it also enhances the look and feel of the product." Basf said the partnership complements its position as a TPU material for consumer electronics brands while providing an ideal solution. The comprehensive Elastollan soft touch TPU series for consumer electronics accessories will be available in a toolkit developed in collaboration with Meiban. Customers of all brands will have a large selection of delicate and versatile accessories to try out and experience these materials.
Minli Zhao, VICE president of BASF's high Performance materials consumer industry, said: "The Meiban partnership offers a great opportunity to demonstrate the design flexibility available with Elastrolan in wearables. The new soft touch series reinforces our position as a provider of integrated solutions for consumer electronics brands."
